What is annual travel insurance?

If you're a frequent flyer, or like to split your holidays over a year, then annual travel insurance – also known as the Annual Multi Trip plan (AMT), may be an option to consider. Our Annual Multi Trip plan covers you for as many trips as you like over 12 months, provided they:

  • Are no longer than 35 days, and
  • Start and end at your home in Australia, and
  • Are to a destination of at least 200km from your home in Australia, and
  • Include travel by either pre-paid scheduled public transport or hire car or include at least one night of pre-booked publicly available accommodation.

Our policy covers you for holidays and business trips, as well as journeys across Australia and worldwide with benefits such as:

  • Unlimited number of trips over 12 months
  • Coverage for both holidays and business trips no longer than 35 days
  • Covers both, domestic and international travel

Why should I consider an Annual Multi Trip policy?

If you're looking at your calendar and can spot a few holidays on the horizon, you may want to consider  an Annual Multi Trip policy.

When you buy an Annual Multi Trip policy, you'll have coverage for 12 months from the start date of your policy. You'll also have pre-trip cover that starts when you buy the policy. The start date must be within 6 months of your purchase.

What can the Annual Multi Trip travel insurance cover?

Our annual policy has all the benefits of our most comprehensive travel insurance with the added benefit of travelling domestically and worldwide multiple times throughout the year. It’s the only one of our policies which covers multiple trips, so if you know you’re going on more than one trip this year then this plan may be an option for you.

An Annual Multi Trip policy covers each trip you take up to 35 days.

What should I do if I need help understanding my policy?

TID’s travel safety team work to keep customers informed and publish information on major travel events on our website.

How much in advance can a traveller purchase a TID AMT policy? Is there a time limit to buy in advance?

The lead time for purchasing a TID Annual Multi Trip (AMT) policy is 6 months

If I buy an AMT policy up to 6 months in advance, will I be covered for any changes or events that happen in that period that prevent me from going on my trip? For example, if I get sick or injured and can’t travel, my initial flight is delayed or cancelled, or a natural disaster occurs and I need to change/reschedule the start date of my trip?

For the TID AMT, for each trip:

Cover begins from the time we issue your Certificate of Insurance for:

  1. the benefit section Cancellation or holiday deferment costs; and
  2. events 1 to 4 in the benefit section Coronavirus travel costs.

Can I make changes to my AMT policy after I have purchased it? And will this change the price of it?

Pushing out the start date of an AMT that has not commenced may be possible and there could be an extra cost to account for lead time. If you are unsure about your AMT coverage you can always get in touch with our Customer Service team. The team is always available to help you to understand the policy, what you may be covered for and any documentation you need to pick up along the way.

Do I need to pay the total amount of the AMT policy upfront when purchasing or can I pay in instalments?

Was part of the terms and conditions of TID travel insurance, when purchasing an AMT policy you will be required to make the full upfront payment before the policy is issued.

If there are multiple travellers listed on the AMT policy, do they have to travel together?

It will depend if you’re travelling with children or not. Named adults can travel independently to any other named adult on your plan. However, children are only covered whilst accompanying an adult named on your Certificate of Insurance.

If I buy an AMT policy and then I have to cancel (while travelling or before leaving on their trip), can I get a refund?

Currently, TID customers are not eligible for a cancellation and full refund if the policy has been travelled on. However, on a case-by-case basis, we may consider partial refunds depending on the circumstances. If you are unsure about your AMT coverage you can always get in touch with our Customer Service team. The team is always available to help you to understand the policy, what you may be covered for and any documentation you need to pick up along the way.

Does a TID AMT policy cover cruise trips?
