Alcohol and Holidays | Travel Insurance Direct (TID)
We all know that travel no matter the destination is all about relaxing and letting our hair down, after all we’ve worked hard for it right? That often means dialling up the fun-meter, which might include having a vino on the plane to celebrate; a sake over a long lunch; or perhaps a cocktail or two in the evenings as the sun goes down after a long day of sightseeing.
There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact it’s a rite of passage for most adventurers, and then there’s the duty-free alcohol benefits, most of us get in on that too.
Holiday tipples are fun, but don’t overdo it
As fun as it is, don’t overdo it and remember that not all countries across the globe partake.
Everyone knows that too much alcohol impairs judgment, affects motor skills and can make some people do some silly things – things that could land them in a whole lot of trouble in a foreign country.
Alcohol laws differ by destination
Laws differ from country to country, for example in Dubai, while you are permitted to drink in licensed premises, public drinking is not permitted and there is a no tolerance policy when it comes to drinking and getting behind the wheel of a car.
The legal drinking age should also be a consideration for those younger travellers headed abroad. While the legal drinking age may be 18 in Australia, in the United States of America and across Europe it is 21.
TID policies cover you for plenty of travel-related issues, however, intoxication and reckless behaviour are not covered in any of our policies. If you are injured or become ill and alcohol is found to be a contributing factor, that may result in any insurance claim you lodge being declined.
This is a brief summary of cover only. Cover is subject to the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement.
